Lace Closure vs. Lace Frontal: Which Should You Choose?

Closures and frontals both create a natural-looking hairline that hides where your bundles or wig begin — but they're built differently and suit different goals. Choosing the right one saves money and delivers a better finish. Here's a clear, practical comparison.

What a Lace Closure Is

A lace closure is a small piece of lace, typically 4x4, 5x5, or 2x6 inches, placed at the crown or part of your install. Hair is hand-tied to the lace so it mimics a natural scalp at the parting. Because it's smaller, a closure is more affordable, quicker to install, and uses fewer bundles — but it only covers the part area, so styling away from the face is limited.

What a Lace Frontal Is

A lace frontal is larger, usually 13x4 or 13x6 inches, stretching from ear to ear across the entire front hairline. It recreates a full, natural hairline and lets you part anywhere, pull hair back off the face, and style more freely. That versatility comes at a higher price and a slightly more involved install.

Closure vs. Frontal at a Glance

  • Coverage: closure covers the part only; frontal covers the whole front hairline.

  • Versatility: frontal allows any parting and off-the-face styles; closure is more limited.

  • Cost: closures are cheaper and use fewer bundles; frontals cost more.

  • Install time: closures are faster; frontals take longer but look more seamless framing the face.

  • Best for: closures for simple middle/side parts; frontals for ponytails, updos, and full styling freedom.

HD Lace vs. Swiss Lace

Both come in different lace types. HD (high-definition) lace is sheerer and melts into the skin for the most undetectable hairline, ideal for close-up and lighter skin tones. Swiss lace is slightly thicker and more durable, a great all-round choice. Either works well when the lace colour is matched to your scalp and the hairline is pre-plucked with baby hairs.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose a closure if you usually wear a simple part, want to protect your edges, and prefer a lower-cost, quicker install. Choose a frontal if you want to part anywhere, wear ponytails and off-the-face styles, or want the most seamless full hairline. Many people own both for different looks. Arrow Exim makes closures and frontals in raw single-donor Indian hair with HD and Swiss lace options and pre-plucked hairlines.

Whichever you choose, the quality of the hair and lace matters more than the size — genuine raw hair and well-matched lace are what make any install look natural.
