What makes Indian temple hair different from other hair types?

Temple hair is donated voluntarily at South Indian temples, cut in one direction from root to tip, and never chemically treated before it reaches the factory. Most 'Brazilian', 'Peruvian', or 'Malaysian' hair sold online is in fact processed Asian hair textured with steam or chemicals to imitate those patterns. Raw temple hair has its own natural pattern (straight, wavy, or curly) that returns after every wash.

How Arrow Exim makes temple hair: our factory process

Step 1 — Sourcing through official temple auctions

We buy donated hair through official South Indian temple auctions, which fund the temples' charitable work. Hair arrives in braided bundles with the cuticle direction preserved.

Step 2 — Sorting by length, texture, and color

Our team hand-sorts every batch by length (8–34 inches), natural texture, and shade, and separates rare grey and salt-and-pepper hair for our natural grey collection. Cuticles are kept aligned throughout.

Step 3 — Washing and sanitization

Hair is washed in mild, sulfate-free shampoo and sanitized with steam and food-grade disinfectant — no bleach, silicone coating, or acid bath, which is what strips processed hair of its strength.

Step 4 — Machine double wefting

Bundles are sewn twice on industrial weft machines for a thin, strong, low-shedding weft that can be cut without unraveling when sealed.

Step 5 — Hand-crafting closures, frontals, and wigs

Lace closures, 13x4 frontals, and full lace wigs are hand-tied knot by knot on HD or Swiss lace with bleachable knots and pre-plucked hairlines — 2–5 days of work per piece.

Step 6 — Quality control and sealing

Every piece is inspected for shedding, length accuracy, and texture consistency, then sealed with a hygiene seal and photographed before dispatch. Export orders ship with commercial invoices and health certificates.

How to identify genuine raw Indian temple hair

Do the burn test (real hair burns to ash and smells like burnt hair, synthetic melts), the wet test (raw hair reverts to its natural pattern when wet), and the cuticle test (run your fingers root to tip — smooth — and tip to root — slight resistance). Visit the factory if you can; a genuine manufacturer will let you.
